As I mentioned in the Youtube episode, I’ve come back to smoothies, and not only because they’re a super easy way of having breakfast when you’re not really a breakfast person, but mostly because the waste from a smoothie is minimal compared to what ends up in the compost bucket when I make juice. So here’s my current everyday smoothie that takes advantage of fresh nettles popping their heads up throughout our garden. I know anything that starts with ‘stinging’ might sound like a weird addition to a smoothie, but don’t worry about the sting on the nettles, they’ll be dissolved during the pureeing process. Promise. Just make sure they haven’t been sprayed with any kind of chemicals if they’re not from your garden.
Makes 4 breakfast sized smoothies
2 oranges, peeled
1 banana, peeled
1 stem of fresh stinging nettles
handful fresh parsley
3-4 fresh kale leaves
2 tbsp chia seed
1 tbsp chaga mushroom powder
Put all ingredients into a high powered blender and blitz until really smooth. Drink immediately, or pour into a jar and refrigerate for drinking within 2 days.
